I don’t often voice my opinion on social media regarding other people, but after seeing the events that took place at The Academy on the weekend, I feel it is my duty as an alopecian and ambassador to say something. I feel compelled to say something that might be able to help society and the media industry understand and learn more about visual differences being celebrated in the right way, not pointing them out in the wrong way. My praise goes to Jada Pinkett Smith for carrying herself with such grace in such a difficult situation in front of millions of people.
This is even more important moving forward following the very sad news of the loss of 12-year-old Rio Allred who committed suicide due to bullying about her alopecia. My thoughts and deepest condolences are with Rio Allred’s family and friends. I cannot imagine what they have endured. Please donate anything you may be able to spare to support them during this very difficult time. Please read Rio Allred’s story on the GoFundMe link here.
My thoughts about the events that took place at the Oscars have been published in The London Evening Standard, they have been so kind as to add Rio Allred’s GoFundMe page in the article linked here.
